We Are Special
“There will always be someone who does not see your worth. Don’t let that someone be you” (Jon Gordon).
One of the devil’s best tools is to get us looking at our faults and failures. He is a master at distraction. If he can get us thinking and feeling bad about ourselves, then why would we try? If I do not see myself as worth the effort to overcome my mistakes, I will not even try. Satan has won just as if we had committed some heinous sin of immortality.
We not only do this to ourselves, but others do it to us as well. So, if Satan can get others to work on us, amplifying our failures, then he wins once again.
There will always be someone who will tell us we are no good and we cannot succeed. I remember in college I had a professor who told me I would not make an “A” in his class because I was too small. It was a farm, power, and machinery class. We had to break down a Briggs and Stratton engine and rebuild it. Also, we broke down a Ford tractor. They both were stripped to the core. Engines and all had to be rebuilt. At the end of the semester, we got three pulls on the Briggs and Stratton engine. If it did not start on the third pull, we got an “F.” Well, I worked hard in that class and I got an “A.” I am not sure what being small had to do with my grade, but I was not going to let the professor intimidate me.
We love to label people. Once we label someone, we then talk to the label or we try to fix the label. The person is forgotten. God knows us (Psa. 139:1-6). He knows our thoughts. He knows where we go. He knows what we need. The point is, He knows us intimately. He created us. That means we are special. Further, when we sinned, He did not forget us. He made the way for us to become His special creation. His special child by adoption. His by redemption. We are His chosen. The riches of His inheritance is in the saints (Eph. 1:18).
In our world today, where so many are struggling with their identity, we need to be reminded that God created who we are. God did not make a mistake on our gender. He did not make a mistake on our sexual orientation. Our identity does not come from labels. Our identity does not come from science. Our identity does not come from our culture. Our identity comes from God!
First, let’s teach our children God gives them their identity. Second, let’s reinforce for our children God made them the way God wanted them to be and who He wanted them to be. Help them embrace they are God’s creation. The zenith of all His creation. That makes us special!
When God defines us, He does not define us by how others say we look. God does not define us by our critics. He does not define us by labels. He defines us as His creation. By redemption He calls us His special creation. He calls us His children. That makes us special!
So, while others may not see our worth, let it not be us who do not see our worth.
