Royal Horse

“My anger is kindled against the shepherds, and I will punish the goatherds. For the Lord of hosts will visit His flock, the house of Judah, and He will make them as his royal horse in the battle” (Zechariah 10:3, NKJV).

There is a difference between a horse trained for battle and the king’s horse. The horse trained for battle is bold and strong, his neck clothed with thunder (Job 39:19). He is trained for battle, but is not necessarily the best-looking.  His confirmation may seem a little rugged and out of proportion. The horse in battle, while rugged, is also subject to all the elements. There is no special stall for him. Also, there is little grooming. The days battle will not allow time for that. His feed may not be the best money can buy, but whatever the soldier can provide. While the battle horse takes his soldier into battle, if he gets killed, another one is available. His life is cheap.

On the other hand, the king’s horse is strong, muscular, and well-shaped, with every feature defined. He is the cream of the crop. It may be that any horse could be used for battle when properly trained, but not every horse can be the king’s horse. The king’s horse is a special breed. It takes the king whenever and wherever the king wanted to go. He is fed the best feed money can buy. He is stalled differently. Cared for differently. Bathed and groomed daily. He has a special ferrier. He is valuable and costly.

The house of Judah, God’s people, will be as a royal horse in the battle. God’s people are not run of the mill. God’s people are a special people. They are a royal people. Their King is the King of kings. God’s people are fed differently. God’s people are groomed by the King Himself.  God’s people present the King to all.  God’s people are valuable.  The value can be seen by the price paid for them. God’s people are not bought with money, but something more precious than silver and gold. God’s people are bought with the blood the King’s Son. God’s people live differently. They are adorned with royal apparel, righteousness.

Can we see how God views His people? We are not run of the mill workhorses. We are as a royal horse in battle.  So let us carry the King!
