The Charade
Before I begin, I want to be clear I am not making a political point. I think both political sides do the same thing. It just depends on who is in power at the moment. Corruption is the norm for both parties. Both lie, cheat, and act out of self-interest. Both act self-righteously and use the same arguments against the other when out of power. As adults they are worse than pre-schoolers who cry, “He hit me.” “He hit me first.” “Mama, he took my toy.” “No I didn’t. I had it first.” Morals are missing in both. To them the rule of law is only a matter of convenience, not something to be respected.
It is amazing to watch the silliness of grown men and women who are supposed to be responsible for making decisions that, supposedly, benefit the nation. Wouldn’t it be amazing for one to stand up and just admit, unabashedly, I am guilty? Maybe to hear them honestly say, “I am going to cheat you out of your money and property.” No, that will probably never happen because it would mean somebody would lose votes. Keeping one’s position and power has become more important than doing what is right and honorable.
I just wonder: do these people in power really think that Americans are that stupid? Do they really think Americans cannot see through their charade? Evidently they do, and evidently too many times they are correct. We get the government we ask for.
Here are a few things that would be nice to see and hear from our leaders. First, “I sinned. I broke the law. Please forgive me.” How about, “I believe in God.” What about, “”Do unto others whatsoever you would they do unto you.” Would we ever hear, “My honor is not for sale?” What if we heard them say, “I will set aside personal preference for the good of the nation.” What if they honestly said, “There is one set of laws for us and one set of laws for you.”
Do we really need laws that tell us not to murder? Not to steal? Not to lie? Not to cheat? Do we really need to be told the meaning of a particular word? Surely we know what is right and wrong. Surely we know what is honorable and what brings dishonor. Surely we know how to treat others with respect. People may argue about it, but nobody believes in survival of the fittest. Nobody really, practically, accepts that we are the by-product of pond scum. I know that because when we feel violated we let others know about it. If there were no standard, and we all are just a by-product of chance, then why scream?
I get frustrated and yell at the TV and news when those from both parties who are supposed to watch out for my good betray that trust. But then I am reminded those in power do not rule my life. God does! He will never forsake me!
