"Want To"

"Want to,” that is the reason for why we do what we do.  No matter the cost or consequences, if we want to we will find a way to do what we want to do.

Every question has behind it what I want to do. It seems we deal with a lot of symptoms, but seldom get right down to the heart and soul of why we do what we do. “Want to” can be good or bad depending on what the want to is.

For example, if a person is unfaithful to their mate, it is not because of love. It is because that person wants to be unfaithful. On the other hand, if a person remains faithfully committed to their spouse it is because that one wants to. No one makes us unfaithful to our mate and know one makes us remain faithful. It is a matter of what we want to do.

Further, I seldom say anything about attendance because the real problem is not that a person is absent but the why. All things being equal, it is a matter of want to. A person attends because that one wants to. A person does not attend because that person does not want to. There is no honor in having a box checked for being present. The real honor is in the want to.

Again, giving is not a matter of the amount, it is determined by what one wants to give. One can give $1,000.00 per week and it be unacceptable to the Lord. One can give $1.00 and it be acceptable to the Lord. What is the difference? It is the want to.

God wants our want to.  It is God who works both to will and to do (Phil. 2:13). If all God wanted was the do He could have made us robots. He wants one to want to do His will. When one gets his want to be the same as God’s want to, there is nothing that one cannot do.

Jesus said it this way, “…for I do all things always that please the Father” (John 8:29). His want to should be our want to.
